Hello everyone.
Today's post is about a piece of baby gear parents use constantly: the stroller, and how to choose the right one.
A stroller is something you'll use from the newborn stage until your child is walking well, sometimes for a year and sometimes for three or four, so it's genuinely one of the more important pieces of equipment for both baby and parent.
Once you actually walk into a baby store, though, the sheer number of types and price ranges can be overwhelming, and it's easy to feel unsure about where to even start.
How do you actually choose a stroller that's safe and right for your baby?

Stroller Types and How to Choose
Strollers generally fall into three categories: full-size, standard, and umbrella (lightweight travel) strollers. Each has clear trade-offs, so it's worth matching the type to your baby's age and your family's routine.
Full-size strollers often include a flat-recline seat so they can be used from the newborn stage. They tend to have sturdy suspension and a smooth ride, but they're heavier and bulkier, which can make loading them into a car a hassle.
Standard strollers sit between full-size and umbrella models, and many families start looking at them around 4 to 6 months, once a baby has some head and neck control. They strike a nice balance between weight and features, which is why they're a popular second stroller.
Umbrella strollers are light and fold up quickly, making them a favorite for travel or short outings. That said, their ride comfort and safety features are often simpler, so it's important to check the manufacturer's minimum age recommendation before use.

Safety Standards Worth Checking
Design and color matter, but safety standards matter more. In Korea, strollers sold on the market fall under the KC safety certification for children's products, and models are generally tested for seats meant for babies weighing 15kg or less, covering finish and materials, structural safety, and ride durability.
When you're buying, it's worth checking whether the product or its manual shows the KC certification mark. Some inexpensive listings online don't clearly state whether the product is certified, so it pays to double-check.
The harness matters just as much. A five-point harness, which secures both shoulders, the waist, and between the legs, is generally recommended. As your baby grows and becomes more active, it's worth periodically checking that the harness hasn't loosened.
For brakes, a dual system that locks both rear wheels at once is safer than one that locks only a single wheel. Get in the habit of engaging the brake whenever the stroller is stopped, and be especially careful on any incline.

A Checklist by Age, Plus Everyday Habits
From newborn through about 3 months, babies can't hold their heads up on their own, so a flat-recline seat and a five-point harness matter more than almost anything else.
Around 4 to 6 months, once neck strength starts developing, you can start considering a model where the seat back can be raised to a more upright angle. This is often when families move on to a standard stroller.
Past 6 months, babies get stronger and more mobile, so it's worth double-checking that the wheel locks and dual brakes are working properly and that the stroller doesn't tip easily.
Everyday habits matter as much as the hardware. Hanging a heavy bag on the handlebar shifts the center of gravity backward and can tip the stroller over, so it's best avoided, and you should never step away from your baby while they're in the stroller, even for a moment.

Wrap-Up
Today we looked at how to choose one of the baby items you'll rely on longest and most often: the stroller. We covered the different types, safety standards like KC certification, five-point harnesses, and dual brakes, and what to watch for at each stage as your baby grows.
A stroller is something you'll likely use for years once you buy it, so rather than rushing based on price or looks alone, it's worth carefully weighing your baby's age, your daily routine, and these safety standards. I hope this rundown helps if you're currently in the middle of choosing one.
