Hi everyone.
Today's post covers something almost every golfer wonders on the course: what's a normal driving distance by club, and where do you actually stand?
"Is your driver distance even average?"
Most of us have quietly compared our tee shots to a playing partner's at some point. Short answer: for an average amateur male golfer, a driver distance around 220 yards is right in the typical range. That might feel shorter than expected, but it's mostly because we benchmark ourselves against tour pros on TV rather than real amateur averages.

The chart above shows average distance by club for amateur male golfers. Compare it with your own numbers and see which club is unusually short for you — that's usually the best place to focus your practice time.
Distance itself isn't the real issue though — consistency is. If you hit 200 yards one round and 170 the next, the problem is rarely swing speed. It's usually impact consistency. Big variance in iron distances especially points to inconsistent grip pressure or ball position from round to round.
If you actually want more distance, don't just swing harder. Check your smash factor first — the ratio of ball speed to clubhead speed. A low smash factor means the issue is contact quality, not raw power.
Bottom line
Distance matters less than consistency. Use average distance charts as a rough reference only, and focus your practice on tracking your own round-to-round numbers to shrink that variance.
